You Are Good I’m alive 9 years past the prognosis I was given. I wasn’t “supposed” to wake up today, but I DID! I don’t know why you woke up today, but YOU DID! I mean we WOKE up today (cue major applause)! Is God good because we woke up today? Yes. Is God still good if we don’t wake up tomorrow? How many times have we heard people say after they got a job or after something went their way, “God was so good to me because…” And it’s true! God is indeed good in these situations. Yet is God still good when we don't get that job or things don’t go as we hoped? This is when the rubber meets the road of our faith and our understanding of God. I remember well the questions that I had to wrestle with when I was first diagnosed. Is God God or is He not (book of Job especially from chapter 37 on)? If He is God and I’m not, then is He good? What constitutes His goodness (Romans 8:28 look up what does he mean by “for our good”)? Remember when I asked you what you were praying about lately? Are you just praying hard or are you actually surrendering these things to the King as if He knows what’s best for His Kingdom? Do His answers to our prayers, whether yes, no, or wait change who He is? As my friend Jason Ingram and I were writing one day, we found ourselves singing these lines over and over in tears because of the surrounding events in both of our lives clouding the reality of God’s goodness. Even in the battle You are good, You are good Even in the struggles I have never understood Be it joy or pain Still my life will say You are God and You are good (so) I’ll praise You Not that I have to Not that I ought to But THAT I MAY We woke up to a GOOD GOD today! We woke up! Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6) What if this is true? What if we lived as though this was true today?
