SIMON OF CYRENE CARRIES THE CROSS Traveling from Cyrene in North Africa, Simon made a Passover pilgrimage to Jerusalem. As he was on his way into the city, he found himself a surprised participant in the crucifixion of Christ. Simon watched in horror as a man beaten and bloodied struggled to carry his cross. Suddenly he found himself pressed into action as Roman soldiers seized him and demanded him to carry Jesus' cross, which he did. Unlike Simon, we aren't forced to pick up Jesus' cross. Instead, Jesus invites us to follow him. It's an open invitation. He calls us to take up our cross and offers us abundant life in return. Praise Jesus for bearing your sin on the cross so that you might carry the cross into eternal life.
