David, a Man After God’s Heart預覽

David was a great king
“Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.” (1 Chronicles 29:26)
David reigned over Israel for forty years. That was a long time with highs and lows, some of which we have read about in this series of devotionals. All in all, David's reign was successful. He defeated many enemies so that Israel had “peace on every side.” Moreover, he encouraged the people to serve the Lord. Under his reign, Israel experienced a time of blessing and prosperity. When he had been on the throne for forty years, David died “at a good age, full of days, riches and honor” (1 Chronicles 29:28).
In later books of the Bible, David is often cited as THE example of a good king. Each of his successors was judged by the extent to which he did “what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done”. David's reign had set the course, so to speak, for others to follow. His example was legendary.
Many generations later, a perfect king was born from David's family who surpassed David himself in everything. His name was Jesus. He was appointed by God to be King over Israel and eventually over the whole world. He reigns over His Kingdom “to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore” (Isaiah 9:6).
Are you a citizen of this Kingdom of Jesus? Are you serving Him as your King?
