Everyday Life in Revelation Part 8: Certain Victory

5天中的第2天

The church in John’s day keenly knew and understood Roman persecution. Rome was the super-power of the world. It seemed invincible. Revelation 14:8 declares that Babylon cannot endure. Now at this time, Babylon was long gone. It is believed by many that when John is writing of Babylon, he is referring to Rome. The message is that Rome will be judged for her sin and for leading others away from King Jesus. This was good news for the early church, and it is good news for us. Rome is one of many examples of an empire that is opposed to King Jesus and persecutes His people. Rome’s fall reminds us that there is no power that can set itself up against God and endure. We also learn that not only the leaders of such an empire will experience God’s judgment, but all who go along with it. All whose thoughts and actions are controlled and blessed by this kind of empire will be judged as well. Choosing to serve this beast yielded short-term prosperity, but it will reap eternal destruction. Today we see the surety of the destruction. Make no mistake, there will be a judgment one day where all who choose to reject the Savior will experience His wrath forever. So today, we must turn to Christ and call our friends, family, and neighbors to do so as well.
