Longing for Motherhood

Day 3 : Grieving Your Unfulfilled Desire Sorrow interrupts our world like nothing else does. It barges in uninvited and reorients our hearts and lives. Grief is a natural response to loss, and it is a God-given emotional response when things aren’t the way they should be. In the midst of grieving, it can be tempting to grit our teeth and try to simply make it through the pain. But you don’t always have to be brave or strong. The only way to truly begin to heal from the pain of childlessness is by pressing into the pain and allowing yourself to fully feel it. It will hurt, but grieving is good for the soul, and will help tremendously in your healing journey. During the moments of sorrow, we can find comfort in the fact that our Savior knows what it’s like to have a sorrowful heart: “Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows” (Isa. 53:4). Jesus was acquainted with grief. He stood by his friend’s grave and “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). In our pain, may we take great comfort in the fact that Jesus not only knows what it’s like to weep, He’s also the one who carries our sorrows, and carries us in our sorrows. Our Savior was the Man of Sorrows. He entered into our pain and suffering. He didn’t have to, but He willingly chose to. “Therefore, we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses” (Heb. 4:15). In the midst of your pain, you can be assured that Your Heavenly Father is always close and that He loves you. Rest in the fact that Jesus carries you in your sorrow.
