Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read Malachi 3:6–7 again.

  • What stands out to you?
  • What does it teach us about God's unchanging nature?
  • What questions do you still have?

A: Application

What's something you regret doing that might have changed how you relate to a parent or someone else in your family?

What would it look like for you to turn back toward that relationship and try to make things right?

How might focusing on God's unchanging nature and abundant forgiveness impact how you view your place in your family?

P: Prayer

Spend some time in prayer talking to God about anything you see hurting your family relationships right now. We're not perfect people, which means our families aren't perfect. And sometimes we're the ones being hurt, but other times we're the ones doing harm. Ask God for guidance approaching any situations like these. Ask for forgiveness in the places where you've been the one hurting others. Then, talk to God about what kind of help you need to address issues taking place. Finally, say thank you for God's perfect love, unchanging nature, and constant forgiveness.

We Are Family

Family can be complicated. Some family memories make us laugh, and others… well, we’d rather forget. The truth is, no family is perfect, and even the Bible is full of families that fell short of the ideal—just look at Abraham’s! In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we’ll follow Abraham’s family, who had their own set of imperfections, and see how God was faithful through their best and worst moments. Along the way, we’ll discover that no matter what kind of family we have, there's always room for us in God's family.
