A Life of Devotion预览

Devotion is a spiritual language only disciples (those interested in knowing Christ and living like Him) can learn. It is quite easy to identify with a denomination, attend some services, and even volunteer to serve, but to become a true disciple is harder. Because becoming a disciple would require absolute devotion. While being part of a community is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith, our devotion to Christ is not proved by it. In fact, many professing Christians are part of a local assembly but being devoted to Christ is alien to their Christian experience.

Our text reveals the nature of true devotion; it must be a life of seeking God with all our hearts and souls. Devotion isn't some two hours church service or singing of beautiful Christian hymns; devotion is much more than that. At the Crux of devotion is seeking the Lord. The word "seek" in our text connotes the idea of following frequently for pursuit or search. Now, when we talk about seeking the Lord it doesn't mean He is lost or hard to find. It simply means we are seeking to know Him. Truthfully, God isn't known by those whose hearts are far from Him. That's why our hearts must be yearning for a deeper knowledge of this God in whom we have believed. Therefore, devotion is a yearning or a heartfelt longing to know, worship, and be intimate with The God in whom we believe.

Our Lord Jesus Christ in showing us what is most important to God tells us that we must be devoted to Him in love and heartfelt seeking (Matthew 22:37 and Mark 12:30). Will you begin seeking God today?
