King Solomon, the Wisest Man That Ever Lived预览

Solomon’s request
“Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?” (1 Kings 3:9)
Solomon was invited by God to ask for whatever he wanted. Imagine you were in that position. What would you ask for?
I think many people would ask for abundant wealth. A long and healthy life would probably be high on people’s list as well. Since Solomon was a king, military power was also important. But no, Solomon asked for something quite different. He longed for “an understanding mind” to equip him for his task of governing God’s people. Solomon was aware that he was young and inexperienced, hardly able to bear the responsibility given to him. So, he asked God for wisdom and discernment which would benefit the people as a whole.
The Lord God granted Solomon’s request: “Behold, I give you a wise and discerning mind, so that none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you.” (1 Kings 3:12) Moreover, God promised to make him rich and famous, and if Solomon would keep God’s commandments, he would have a long life. So, although Solomon did not ask much for himself (or rather, because he did not ask much for himself), God blessed him abundantly.
Can you mention some blessings God has given you, perhaps without even your asking ? Don’t forget to thank Him!
