Greater than Solomon: Jesus is the source of real wisdom

“The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.” (Matthew 12:42)

King Solomon had become known beyond the borders of the country. 1 Kings 10:23-24 concludes, “King Solomon excelled all the kings of the earth in riches and in wisdom. And the whole earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put into his mind.”

The queen of Sheba was one of the visitors who traveled to Israel to hear Solomon's wisdom. We read about that two days ago. Centuries later, the Lord Jesus mentioned her as an example to the people of His day. The queen took the trouble to travel “from the ends of the earth” to Solomon to learn from him. People in Jesus' day were reluctant to listen to His words, although they noticed that He spoke with authority and wondered, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?” (Matthew 13:54)

The Bible goes on to say that in Jesus Christ “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” (Colossians 2:3) True wisdom is found only in Him. It is divine wisdom that He wants to teach to us.
