1 Samuel 1 Samuel is a book of transition. Though God had made it clear he was the King, the people continued to insist on an earthly king. God grants their wish, and Saul becomes king. The transition from God-appointed leaders to a family lineage of leaders becomes part of the salvation story of the Bible. The Messiah will eventually come through the line of King David.
