The book of Micah lands right in the center of the Assyrian invasion of Israel and the looming captivity that has become inevitable for the rebellious bunch of God’s children. Yet God, in His grace and love, STILL gives His children hope as they purposely distance themselves from Him. Listen to the longing of the Father in Micah 2:12-13, “Someday, O Israel, I will gather you; I will gather the remnant who are left. I will bring you together again like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture. Yes, your land will again be filled with noisy crowds! Your leader will break out and lead you out of exile, out through the gates of the enemy cities, back to your own land. Your king will lead you; the Lord himself will guide you.”
Baby monitors are a tricky thing. The whole point is to make sure your child is OK without having to be in the room, but Anna keeps the volume so loud on them it’s like the baby is still in the room anyway! I remember sleep-training Zadok and asking her to give me the monitor. With fear in her eyes, she asked, “What are you going to do?” Knowing she couldn’t handle him crying for more than a few moments, I took the monitor and went upstairs outside his room door. I sat there and watched my poor son “cry it out” for the first time. There was a moment he stopped and looked around the room, “Am I really alone?” He might have felt that way, but little did he know I was right outside his door watching him.
That’s the comfort God gives the children of Israel. He tells them they’re headed for a rough road of loneliness, but He’s got the monitor, and He’s watching.
The God of Abraham is the same God today. He holds a monitor in His hands watching over us. He sees you, even if you feel alone. He sent His son to die for you so that He could have a relationship with you again. You might be going through a rough time, possibly from your own doing, and while it might feel alone, God is still watching, waiting to lead you out if you’ll turn to Him.
