Top Takeaway from Jessica Hottle:

In this world, we are slowly becoming convinced that what we feel is who we are, that we do not have control over our feelings, choices, words, or actions.

You may have even said this at one point in your life, like I have, "This is just who I am." (And everyone else has to just deal with it. *insert facepalm emoji*)

However, as you read through Proverbs, you are being shown two sides with every line of Scripture. If you walk this way, this is what happens. Or, if you choose that path, that will be the result.

Two pathways, one leading to righteousness and life and the other leading to death, means that you choose how to respond according to what's happening around you and  despite what is happening inside you. There is always His way or the enemy's way.

God created you to be a thinking being. How you think affects and changes your brain.

Proverbs 15:1 says, "A gentle answer turns away wrath,

But a harsh word stirs up anger."

Proverbs 15:18 tells us, "A hot-tempered person stirs up strife,

But the slow to anger calms a dispute."

When you believe a lie for so long, you begin to believe it to be true.

Today, check in with your heart. Is God's Word leading your life or is how you feel blazing the path? What's in us will come out of us.

You are who God says you are. Not who you think you are by what you feel or by any opinion of this world.

Father, thank You for creating us to be thinking beings. Thank You for giving us knowledge and understanding to use wisdom in every situation that arises. Help me to examine the condition of my heart. Prune what needs pruning and water what needs to grow. I love You, Amen!

Using God's Word as the foundation for our conversation, every devotional is written by women in the trenches of faith, family and work; aiming to live for the glory of God and the good of others. There are enough devotions included for a typical five-day work schedule. We recommend plugging into your local church for the remaining two days of each week.
