Jeremiah

Jeremiah, the author of this book, was born in approximately 650 BC. He was called by God to prophesy to the southern kingdom of Judah of the imminent judgement due to their disobedience to God. Often mocked and beaten for his prophecies, Jeremiah remained faithful to his calling. Though Judah was given forty years to repent, the people continued in sin and were eventually exiled to Babylon in 586 BC.

Jeremiah was an unlikely prophet—young and inexperienced. Yet God chose him to deliver an unpopular message to a rebellious people, warning them of coming devastation and calling them to repent. Despite fierce opposition, Jeremiah lived with integrity and faith. He proclaimed God’s message with compassion and tears, communicating God’s faithful love and sovereign justice and the promise of a future when God would once again restore his people.

The God Provides series offers a rich, dramatic journey through theater-quality, short films which show us wisdom, truth, encouragement and practical steps to deepen a relationship of trust with God.  As illustrated in this session’s film, God spoke encouraging and unusual words through the prophet Jeremiah that required the exiles to exercise great faith in God and do something unprecedented for exiles at that time in history to do.

When life feels dark—like nothing is going right and nothing ever will—it’s easy to feel lost and hopeless. But just like the sun, moon, and stars light up the darkest sky, God’s light shines in our lives even in the hardest moments because God’s presence carries us, no matter what we face. For the next 28 days, we’ll explore how God meets us in our pain and brings light to guide us through. We’ll learn that even when we lose hope, God is closer than we know.

Even Still

This Lent, we’ll follow Jesus to Calvary with Jeremiah as our guide. Where God in the midst of stubbornness, gave His people a beacon of hope and a promise. We will repent of our sins and rejoice in the hope that lies not in our strength or works but in the empty tomb of Jesus, arriving at Resurrection Sunday with a renewed understanding of this unshakable truth: His love endures.
