Nehemiah

Often touted as a “leadership” book, Nehemiah is rich in application. The way Nehemiah led the exiled Israelites in Persia to rebuild and reoccupy Jerusalem was as much an exercise in surrender and supplication as it was leadership and strategy. In this 21-day reading plan, we’ll look to Nehemiah as a role model in prayer, obedience, perseverance, and, yes, leadership.

Nehemiah: God's Invitation to Rebuild

Along with Ezra, Nehemiah chronicles the post-exilic history of Israel. Nehemiah's leadership helped resettle Israelites in the land and rebuild Jerusalem's walls. However, Nehemiah's greatest legacy was a renewed national identity rooted in repentance of sin and obedience to God.

Reconstruction: A Study in Nehemiah

There is something very human about the need to pursue and conquer impossible things. Following Zerubbabel and Ezra, Nehemiah’s rebuilding of the city wall in Jerusalem is the last part of the trio. These leaders helped the Jews withstand all opposition and restore their identity as a nation. The two volumes of Ezra-Nehemiah send a strong message to us: God is faithful to the covenant with His people. We might go astray, but God will always bring us back to the Promised Land.
