How to Read the Bible the Grace WayÀpẹrẹ

Day 2: Jesus is the Point
Scripture:
John 5:39–40 (NIV)
"You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life."
Reflection:
You can read any book cover to cover, and still miss out on the point of the story. If there is a book we don't want to experience that with, it's the Bible, but this is precisely what happened to the Pharisees. They memorized verses, followed the rules, but they didn't recognize Jesus when He was standing right in front of them. Jesus said, "These scriptures testify about me." The Bible isn't just an old book full of rules and stories—it's a love story. And Jesus isn't some side character. He's the thread that holds the whole thing together. When we forget that, we start looking for formulas instead of a Father. We look for steps instead of a Savior. We turn the Bible into a rulebook when it was always meant to lead us into a relationship with God. This confusion begins to clear once we start seeing Jesus as the point. Every sacrifice, every prophecy, every story, all of it whispers His name. God's word isn't a step-by-step guide on how to reach Him, earn His love, or receive His approval. It's about a God who came to us. As you read the Bible, feel free to ask yourself: Where is Jesus here? What about this passage is revealing about Jesus? As you ask yourself these questions, you'll be able to see Him clearly on every page, and when you do, you can't unsee it. The added bonus is that the more you see Him clearly, the better you will begin to see yourself in Him.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you ever read the Bible without recognizing Jesus as its central figure?
- What changes when you approach Scripture to encounter Him instead of just gaining information?
Prayer:
Jesus, I want to know You! I don't just want to know Your word, I want to experience the person the Bible is pointing me to. Please show me how Your grace puts it all together. Amen.
