Plan, But Don't Be a Slave to Your Plans

Plans are good. They help to bring order to how things are done, both personally and in an organizational setting. But in several cases, some plans don't go as scheduled. Some are delayed, others may be fulfilled faster than usual, and some are completely destroyed due to unforeseen, awful circumstances such as death. What am I saying here? It is beneficial to plan, especially when handling multiple tasks. However, living like a slave to those plans often ends up making people overly frustrated when things don't go as planned. Proverbs 16:1 (NIV) says,

"To humans belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue."

That verse means that it is man's responsibility to plan, but the steps to the fulfillment of those plans come from the Lord. That is why anyone who has been on a divine, visionary life in Christ may have had an experience in which God helped them achieve some areas of their dreams at a time they may not have wanted. That is God. He grants people's desires, but only according to His timing, not theirs.

In no way should you give up on your dreams. However, desist from serving the dream. Instead, serve God and let Him lead you, always bearing consciousness of His Word over your life. If He takes you through a path you didn't really expect, still embrace it. Perhaps those things are necessary to prepare you for what He has in store for you.
