New Day, Same God

Day 1 – How can we be sure that God is the same?

“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” – Malachi 3:6

Some scholars believe the bible was written during a period covering 1,500 years. Since then, mankind has shared many testimonies, prophecies, and revelations. Along with this, God has shown a consistent, unchanging nature from the start. We know this based on historical evidence and our own personal experiences.

The continuity of historical accounts gives us solace in the bible’s reliability. The creation of earth (see Genesis 1:1), the creation of man (see Genesis 1:26), and the birth of Jesus (see Luke 2:6-7), are three immutable accounts for building a firm foundation. While scripture gives us reassurance, God’s faithfulness reinforces our trust and belief in His unchanging character.

“In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” – Psalm 102:25-27

It should give us great comfort to know that regardless of our age, social status, or the times we live in, God’s promises are not exclusive to those who lived during the bible times, but they include us, too. God has outlived more generations than we can imagine, and He will outlive ours as well.

Let’s pray together:

Heavenly Father, thank you, for the peace I have from knowing you are the same God in my life today, as you were on the day you created earth. It gives me great comfort to know that I can trust you. If I ever wonder if you are the same God in these changing times, scripture is my foundation as you are my lifeline. I will embrace all I know to be true about your presence and cherish it forever. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

New Day, Same God

The Bible is old, outdated, and does not apply to the twenty-first century; these are the sentiments that some believe by the actions they demonstrate. Bree Jackson uses scripture to illustrate that the Word of God is very much alive and active in the times we live. In New Day, Same God, Bree challenges us to consider three important questions: How can we be sure that God is the same? How can we trust the Word of God in a changing world? And how can we follow God’s Word when the world contradicts it?
