Matthew shows us how Jesus fulfills the Old Testament. He pictures the Old Testament as a treasure chest that contains old and new treasures (Matthew 13:52). The old treasure in the Hebrew Scriptures hasn't gone anywhere, nor has it faded nor lost value (Matthew 5:17-18). Matthew helps us see a new treasure hidden in Scripture, which is Jesus. All of the Old Testament finds its new treasure in how Jesus fulfills it.
