I Said to Myself: Overcoming False Beliefs

7 günden 1. gün

Overview I always talk to myself, by myself! As early as I can remember, I would find myself having a conversation with, well, myself. At first, I thought talking to myself was normal until I would hear people say how “not-so-normal” it really was. In fact, when my mom would have discussions with me and things got a little heated, she would give me motherly instructions and I would say something under my breath. She would ask, “What did you say?” To which I would respond, “I’m just arguing with myself.” It seems that self-talk has always been a part of my life. False beLIEfs are real and their intent is to choke the truth out of our lives. The enemy uses them as strongholds to prevent God's truth about Himself and about us from being revealed. Throughout this plan you will be able to see a few false beLIEfs that many people can identify with and how we must replace them with truth. I love how the God-man, Jesus himself, addressed this in a noticeably short statement. He said, “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” (Mt. 12:4b NIV). There is no way around it. Eventually our words will share what our hearts have believed, whether it is true or not. This is a powerful truth because it gives us an opportunity to reflect on our words and think about the source of those words. We can find examples of this principle in scripture. When Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of the tree that God had warned them not to eat of, they hid and covered themselves because they were ashamed. They had sinned (missed the mark) and were embarrassed. So, God goes looking for them in the garden and hears Adam say, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so, I hid.” God then answers, “Who told you that you were naked?” (Genesis 3). Adam was believing a false belief and hid from God even though they spoke face to face every day. God was asking Adam a rhetorical question. In other words, “Adam, you must have listened to someone other than Me tell you something about yourself that I did not endorse.” Let the self-talk, through God's desire for us, begin!
