Let’s just be honest, loving our brother is not always easy. There is no doubt that some of you have been deeply hurt by someone else and it is very difficult for you to love them. For most of us though, it’s family members and friends and fellow believers that are just sometimes hard to love. God reminds us here that our love for others is motivated out of the love God has for us. He has displayed that love in thousands and thousands of different ways, but none as clear as the cross of Christ. We didn’t initiate that, God did. It wasn’t motivated by anything we did or didn’t do, it was motivated by His love for us. Our love should not be circumstantial, but flow from a deep understanding of the truth of God’s love for us displayed in Christ.
