What does the word "gospel" really mean?
The word gospel literally means “good news” or “good tidings”. Paul gives one of the clearest explanations in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4: Jesus died for our sins, was buried in a borrowed tomb, and rose again three days later, proving His power over death. It’s through faith in Jesus Christ that we are saved.
Our sin-filled lives deserve punishment. The punishment for breaking God’s perfect law is death and Hell, forever separated from God. But Jesus’ sacrifice and victory over death provide cleansing from sin, a new hope, and eternal salvation! That’s the good news we are called to share with those we connect with every week.
