Back to the Basics 365

DAY 240 OF 365

Disciples of Jesus Christ understand that they are saved by God's amazing grace. Salvation is not of works, but of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Because salvation is not earned by good works, it cannot be lost by sin. This truth, for some, tempts them to abuse grace and live in sin. This is wrong, and we should not go back to serve that which we were saved from. Grace, rather than excusing sin, should inspire us to serve. Titus 2:11-13 explains this truth. Consider the truths of these verses broken down:

God’s grace brings salvation: “For the grace of God that bringeth Salvation”,

God’s grace and salvation are for everyone; “appeared to all men”,

God’s grace teaches us to deny or turn from “ungodliness” (wickedness, sin), and “worldly lusts” (the sinful pleasures that this world has to offer), and instead teaches us to live “soberly” (seriously, serious about God), “righteously” (just, pure), and “godly” (obedient to God, holy).

Verse 13 continues by telling us that we are looking forward to Jesus, not hiding our sin from Him, but confident to see Him. Verse 14 says, “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” These verses tell us that Jesus died to save us from sin, to purify us from sin, and that we are to live a unique life for Him, eager to serve Him with good works.
