Back to the Basics 365

DAY 232 OF 365

Disciples of Jesus Christ should keep short accounts with God. Sin, if it is not repented of and forsaken, can grow into a big problem that is difficult to defeat. It is important that we do not get comfortable with sin in our lives.

As the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, we should confess it right away. 1 John 1:9 tells us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The verse mentions “If”. We need to be the one who decides to go to God for forgiveness. When we do confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confessing is agreeing with God about our sin. And we should do exactly that; rather than excusing sin and hiding sin, we should agree with God that what we did was wrong and ask Him to forgive us and deliver us from that sin.
