The Eternal Word Became Flesh
Before creation ever began, before light touched the earth or time was measured, Jesus already existed. The Gospel of John tells us that he was with God in the beginning and that through him all things were made. He was not a new idea or a sudden arrival but the eternal Word of God who chose to enter the world he created.
When Jesus was born, heaven and earth met in a way that changed everything. The same God who spoke the universe into being came as a child, small and fragile, wrapped in human flesh. This is what Scripture calls the Word becoming flesh. Through Jesus, we can see and understand who God truly is.
Every detail of his birth points to humility and love. He could have come as a ruler surrounded by wealth and power, but instead he arrived in simplicity, born in a stable among animals. His first visitors were not kings or priests but shepherds who lived on the edges of society. Even in this, God was showing that his grace reaches every person, no matter how ordinary their life may seem.
In Jesus, God revealed that he is not distant or unreachable. He chose to live among us, to walk our roads, to share in our struggles, and to bring light to every dark place. The name given to him, Emmanuel, means “God with us.” It is a promise that continues to this day. The same presence that filled the manger fills our hearts when we make space for him.
Find a few quiet minutes today to sit in stillness. Reflect on what it means that God is with you. Imagine Jesus walking beside you, not as a distant figure but as a friend. Let that awareness bring peace and gratitude into your day.
