Here Comes the Son

DAY 3 OF 10

God Comes to the Willing Heart

The Gospel of Luke tells us that God sent an angel named Gabriel to a young woman in Nazareth. He greeted her with the words, “You are highly favoured. The Lord is with you.” Mary was startled and unsure of what this greeting meant, but Gabriel explained that she would give birth to a son and that this child would be called Jesus, the Son of the Most High.

Mary could have turned away in fear or disbelief. She was a virgin and engaged to be married, which made this news confusing and costly. Yet when she heard the angel say that nothing is impossible with God, she believed. Her response was simple and full of faith. She said she was the Lord’s servant and that she would accept whatever God had spoken.

That moment of surrender opened the way for salvation to enter the world. God’s plan moved through the heart of a teenager who trusted him completely. Mary’s story shows us that obedience often begins with a quiet yes, even when the outcome is unclear.

Later, Mary sang a song of praise, saying her soul glorified the Lord and her spirit rejoiced in God her Saviour. She recognised that God had chosen someone humble and ordinary to carry something divine. Through her life, we see that true greatness is found in faithfulness.

God still looks for hearts like Mary’s, hearts that are ready to listen, trust, and respond. We may not carry a child, but we are all invited to carry the presence of Jesus into our world. Every yes to God allows his plan to take shape in us and through us.

Take a moment today to ask, “What is God inviting me to say yes to?” It may be an act of forgiveness, a new step of faith, or a decision to serve someone else. Write it down and pray for the courage to follow through, trusting that God’s power is made perfect in your surrender.
