That's Crazy—No, That's God

DAY 1 OF 4

God’s Purpose Prevails

I never planned to become a preacher. In fact, if you had seen me years ago, you might’ve thought I wouldn’t even make it out alive. My life was chaos. Drugs, gangs, prison—that was my reality. But in that dark place, God whispered a truth louder than any prison door could slam: His purpose for my life still stood.

When I heard the words “Jesus loves you” from a prison chaplain, it sounded crazy. Me? After everything I’d done? But that crazy love became the turning point. I realized that God’s purpose isn’t cancelled by our choices. He doesn’t discard us because of our past—He redeems us through it.

That verse in Romans 8:28? It’s not just poetic. It’s powerful. “All things work together for good for those who love God.” Even the bad decisions, the pain, the prison time—God was weaving it all into something good. Something purposeful.

People had plans for me—some wanted me gone, some wanted me silenced. I had my own plans too, most of them destructive. But God had a better one. Proverbs 19:21 says, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” I saw that firsthand. I tried to run from God, but His grace outran me.

In Jeremiah 29:11, God says He has plans to prosper us, not to harm us. To give us a future and a hope. In prison, it felt like there was no future. But God was building something I couldn’t see yet. He was working behind bars, preparing a platform from my pit.

If you feel like you’ve messed up God’s plan for your life, let me tell you this: You’re not that powerful. God’s purpose is bigger than your mistakes. He specializes in turning wreckage into redemption.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where in my life do I feel like God’s purpose has been derailed?
  • How can I begin to trust that He’s working behind the scenes?

Prayer:

Father, thank You that Your plans for me are still good. Even when I run, You pursue me. Even when I fall, You lift me up. Help me trust Your purpose and believe that nothing in my life is wasted. Use every chapter—even the painful ones—to fulfill the story You’re writing. Amen.
