When the angel told Mary that she would carry God’s Son, her first words were simple: “How will this be?”

Mary didn’t ask why God chose her or why His plan looked the way it did. Why demands reasons and explanations.

Instead, she asked how. How invites relationship and trust. How leans in to be part of what He’s doing.

When we stop asking why me? and start asking how will You move, Lord?—our hearts soften and remember to trust God.

Mary’s words “I am the Lord’s servant” show a heart fully surrendered to God’s will. Faith grows in the space between what we don’t understand and who we know God to be.

Asking how keeps us listening, watching, and ready for His Spirit to work in ways beyond our imagination. We begin to see life less as something to figure out and more as something to participate in with Him.

Mary didn’t need to have all the answers to move forward in faith—and neither do we.

Pray:

God, help me to trust You even when I don’t understand what You’re doing. Teach me to ask how You want to work through me instead of asking why. Give me the faith to say, “I am Your servant,” and to follow wherever You lead. Amen.
