Light in the Darkness

During a trip to the slopes of Mount Etna, in Sicily, the highest active volcano in Europe, I went with some friends to visit a cave. It was a fascinating, yet quite terrifying experience. At one point, while we were deep inside, the guide asked us to turn off all our lights.

The darkness was so thick we couldn’t even see our own hands. In that moment, I imagined how painful and oppressive it would be to live forever in such darkness.

But there’s something even worse, living like that in everyday life, blinded by wrong beliefs, confused thoughts, or misleading ideologies. How can we escape this darkness? Where can we find a light that doesn't deceive?

The psalmist gives us the answer: the entrance of Your words gives light, it gives understanding to the simple. It doesn’t matter how educated, rich, or poor we are; the Word of God is light for every heart willing to listen. It guides us out of the darkness and opens our eyes to the truth.

Prayer: Lord, light Your flame inside me. Let me walk in truth and never leave me in darkness.
