Day 2: Identity
Focus: Jesus meets you where you are, but doesn’t leave you there. He redefines your identity and gives you a new future.
Cultural Connection: We live in a culture obsessed with labels, but your true identity is what Jesus says about you.
Devotional:
The Samaritan woman came to the well carrying more than a water jar. She also carried shame, labels, and a past that defined her. Yet Jesus met her right there. He didn’t flinch at her history or avoid her because of her reputation. He offered her living water — a new identity.
As parents, we carry labels too, like tired, overwhelmed, failing, or not feeling you are enough. Culture might try to define you by your mistakes or circumstances, but Jesus redefines you by His grace. He doesn’t just see your past; He calls out your potential.
And here’s the amazing part: The woman at the well became a messenger. Her story — the unedited, messy, real one — became the very thing God used to reach her community.
Reflection Questions:
- What labels have you been carrying that Jesus might want to remove?
- How can your story, even the hard parts, become a testimony for your kids?
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for meeting me where I am and offering a better story. Help me to stop believing the labels of culture and to trust what You say about me. Let my identity be rooted in You so I can lead my kids with confidence. Amen.
Family Connection:
Using sticky notes or paper slips, have each family member write one label they’ve heard or believed about themselves. Then, cross it out and write what Jesus says instead. (e.g., “Not good enough” becomes “chosen” or “not smart” becomes “known and loved.”) Display them somewhere visible as a reminder that Jesus gives us our true identity.

About this Plan

In a world obsessed with image, influence, and perfection, parenting can feel like a daily test you barely pass. But Jesus sees you, knows you, and still chooses you. This four-day devotional guides you through four powerful encounters with Jesus, as found in the Gospel of John. You’ll discover how Jesus meets you in your doubts, speaks to your identity, uses your story, and sends you with purpose right where you are, with the family He has given you. You don't need to be perfect — just present.
