Long before Genesis 1:1, when God created the heavens and the earth with the power of His spoken Word, He knew...

• The man and woman He created would fall into the grasp of sin.
• Sin would need to be cleansed with a sacrifice.
• The only sacrifice that could pay the full debt of sin would be the blood of His only begotten Son.
• For Jesus to pay that debt, He would have to be born and, eventually, die.

God knew all of that. Still, He sacrificed His Son not because we deserved it but because of how much He loves us. Romans 5:8 (NKJV) declares, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Though Micah, the Old Testament prophet, lived years before those words were penned, he grasped their prophetic truth. His words reveal he caught a glimpse of what God knew all along: “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting” (Micah 5:2, NKJV).

Before Adam took his first breath, before the foundations of the world were laid, God had already chosen Bethlehem as the birthplace of His Son.

Bethlehem wasn’t an afterthought but an appointment on the divine calendar of redemption! Tomorrow we’ll discover what the fulfillment of that Bethlehem promise shows us.
