Matthew's Journey: 'The Gifts You Have' (Part 4)

DAY 5 OF 5

Living as Gifted People

God didn’t give you gifts just to keep them to yourself. Like Matthew, you are called to step out in faith and use them—not perfectly, but boldly. So, what will you do with what you’ve been given? How will you step out of your comfort zone?

In The Chosen, we see a profound shift in Matthew. Once an outsider, once seen as an enemy of his own people, he is now entrusted with something incredible—helping Jesus shape the words of the Sermon on the Mount. That’s the beauty of stepping into God’s calling: when we surrender our gifts to Him, He doesn’t just use them—He amplifies them.

But let’s be honest—this all can feel incredibly daunting. That’s why 2 Timothy 1:6-7 is such an important reminder: "Fan into flame the gift of God... For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline." Your gifts are not meant to remain hidden, flickering in the background. They are meant to shine brightly, to be cultivated and used with courage. Imagine how different the world would look if every believer fully stepped into their calling.

Jesus Himself tells us in Matthew 5:14-16 that we are the light of the world. But light isn’t meant to be covered—it’s meant to illuminate, to guide, to warm. When you use your gifts, you reflect the goodness of God in a way that only you can. Think about it: there are people in your life who need what God has uniquely placed in you.

So the question remains: What’s stopping you? Ephesians 4:11-13 reminds us that gifts are given not just for our own benefit, but to build up the body of Christ. Your gift—no matter how big or small it seems—contributes to something far greater than you can imagine. The world needs what God has placed inside of you. Will you step forward in faith?

What’s one step you can take to use your gifts more fully?

P.S. Are you enjoying this journey with Matthew? Your own character might even resemble his. Care to find out? Take our The Chosen 'Test of Character' and journey for a while with the character you have the most in common with.
