Mary Magdalene's Journey: 'Not Left Out!' (Part 3)

DAY 1 OF 5

A life restored

Imagine living in constant torment, plagued by demons, and—worse perhaps—rejected by society. That was Mary Magdalene’s reality until she met Jesus. In 'The Chosen,' we see Mary Magdalene wrestling with her past, shame, and fear. Yet, Jesus meets her in her brokenness, calling her by name, and sets her free. This profound act of compassion changes everything.

The Bible tells us that Jesus drove seven demons out of Mary Magdalene. This wasn’t just a physical healing; it was a restoration of her identity. She was no longer defined by her struggle, but by the love of Jesus. In 'The Chosen,' this transformation is portrayed beautifully when Mary Magdalene finally embraces her new life, leaving behind her old life and name, Lilith.

Jesus didn’t just restore Mary Magdalene physically; He gave her a new sense of purpose and belonging. He pulled her out of the margins and placed her in the middle of His circle of close friends. She became one of His devoted followers, traveling with Him and supporting His ministry. Despite what others may have thought of her past, Mary knew from then on she was chosen and cherished by Jesus.

Many of us carry labels from our past, just like Mary Magdalene did...labels that make us feel unworthy of a good life, whether we or others put ourselves there.

Mary Magdalene’s story reminds us that Jesus sees beyond those labels and self-imposed restrictions. He calls us by name! And He thus welcomes us into a life, not marked by confines, but by grace. His compassion for those who feel (and are) outside the circle of humanity brings us back in and shines a new light on us.

Today, reflect on what it means to be restored by Jesus. Maybe there’s a part of your life where you feel defined by past mistakes or events, that somehow shut you out or make you feel like you are excluded. Remember that just like Mary Magdalene, you are loved and called back in by the One who knows you by name.

What parts of your life do you need Jesus to restore today?

P.S. Are you enjoying this journey with Mary Magdalene? Your own character might even resemble hers. Care to find out? Take The Chosen 'Test of Character' and journey for a while with the character you have the most in common with.

About this Plan

Mary Magdalene's Journey: 'Not Left Out!' (Part 3)

Jesus’ compassion for the marginalized shows us that true belonging isn’t earned—it’s given. Mary Magdalene’s story is a powerful example of this. Through both Scripture and stories from 'The Chosen,' explore how Mary Magdalene moved from brokenness to belonging, and how her story challenges us to see ourselves through the eyes of grace. You can read this plan separately, but it is also part of 'The Chosen's Test of Character' journey.
