REFOCUS MY WORDS + WITNESS
Every word and every action points to something. As followers of Jesus, we gave up the right to do whatever our flesh desires, and we now have the opportunity to focus our speech and our lifestyle on reflecting Jesus. In the sermon The Disease of Double-Minded, we're reminded that you can’t speak one thing and live another. If your words don’t match your walk, your witness gets watered down.
It’s important to be continually reminded that this life is not all about me—my opinions, preferences, or perspective. We are part of a greater story, a wider family, and a bigger mission. And whether we realize it or not, people are watching how we live, how we speak, and how we respond.
James reminds us that blessing and cursing shouldn’t flow from the same mouth. Paul urges us to use our words to build others up. Jesus Himself taught that what comes out of our mouths reveals what’s stored in our hearts. Bottom line, our words and our witness are tied together. When our hearts are aligned with the truth of who God is and who He says we are, our speech begins to reflect that. And when our lives reflect His love, our words carry even more weight.
Today, we ask God to refocus not only how we speak, but also how we live. Because in the Kingdom, our daily lives are part of the testimony. We don’t just share the Gospel with our lips; we demonstrate it with our lives. When our words and witness are aligned, people don’t just hear about Jesus, they actually encounter Him through us.
Application/ Reflection
Take time today to be reminded of who God says you are, and reflect on whether your words and actions reflect that identity.
- Do my words speak life or tear down?
- Is my lifestyle consistent with the faith I claim?
- Who might be watching me that needs to see Jesus through my witness?
Prayer
God, today I ask that You would help me understand the weight and power of my words and the life I live. Thank You for reminding me that this life is not all about me. Help me speak with grace, live with integrity, and rep You well in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
About this Plan

Not all distractions are obvious; some are subtle shifts that allow you to drift without even realizing it. The good news? We can refocus. Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us that if we fix our eyes on Jesus then we’ll have the faith to focus. In this 7-day devotional, you’ll pause each day to refocus specific areas of your life and realign with the vision God has for you.
