1 Corinthians

DAY 8 OF 30

In these verses, Paul addresses the Corinthians about their pride and self-perception. He makes it clear to them that everything they have and have achieved comes from God, giving them no reason for arrogance. Paul wants to show them that the true worth of the Christian life lies not in external reputation or success, but in faithfully following Christ.

Paul warns the Corinthians against seeing themselves as special and seeking their strength in their knowledge or wisdom. Instead, he shows them that he and the other apostles often live in weakness, not in the glory and esteem they desire. Paul himself has endured much and is willing to suffer even more for the gospel.

Paul presents himself and the other apostles as an example of true discipleship. They have taken “the lowest position” and suffer a great deal. They go through hardship and deprivation, yet their devotion is genuine and their joy is deep. Paul challenges the Corinthians to examine their attitude: Is their discipleship truly characterized by devotion to Christ, or more by pride and self-interest?

For Reflection:

On what do you build your worth? On your accomplishments or on the grace of God?

Where do you tend to compare yourself with others and to think more highly of yourself than of them?

About this Plan

1 Corinthians

Corinth was a major port city in ancient Greece—a center of commerce, religious diversity, and known for loose living. Precisely there, a young church was growing, learning to live out their faith in a secular environment. Many issues they faced remain relevant today. In this reading plan, you'll see how Paul addresses the early believers’ challenges and shows what it means to live as a church, strengthen one another, and use the Spirit’s gifts. It’s about genuine love, handling conflict, the power of the resurrection, and how faith in Christ can transform everyday life.
