1 Corinthians

DAY 5 OF 30

Paul continues with the theme of divisions in the church. Apparently, many in Corinth were proud of their spiritual leaders—so much so that they felt superior to other Christians. Paul gets them off their high horse. He compares them to infants who still need milk because they are not ready for solid food. Imagine walking into a church where adults behave like babies—constantly grumbling, easily offended, and only able to tolerate simple spiritual food. The situation in Corinth was something like that.

For Paul, it is clear: where jealousy, strife, and discord reign, spiritual maturity has not yet truly grown. Whoever acts this way has not really understood the foundations of the faith.

And one of those foundations is this: growth does not come from people. We can plant and water—but only God makes it grow. Leaders are tools, but not the source of growth. God alone is the one who changes lives.

For Reflection

We can only sow—and God gives the growth as He chooses.

Where in my life do I show signs of spiritual immaturity (e.g., being easily hurt, jealous, unforgiving, partisan…)?

How can I foster spiritual growth in myself?

About this Plan

1 Corinthians

Corinth was a major port city in ancient Greece—a center of commerce, religious diversity, and known for loose living. Precisely there, a young church was growing, learning to live out their faith in a secular environment. Many issues they faced remain relevant today. In this reading plan, you'll see how Paul addresses the early believers’ challenges and shows what it means to live as a church, strengthen one another, and use the Spirit’s gifts. It’s about genuine love, handling conflict, the power of the resurrection, and how faith in Christ can transform everyday life.
