Prayers for Your Strong-Willed Teen

DAY 2 OF 5

Prayer for Peace

When our kids enter their teen years, a tug-of-war begins.

They want freedom; we want them to understand boundaries. They claim to no longer need us; we know they still depend on us for their very survival. They want to make the rules; we want them to follow.

This is where raising teens can get disruptive. They are trying to test their wings, and we are trying to teach them to fly. When this is all done simultaneously, we may find ourselves at odds with our teens.

This is part of the letting-go process for us as parents and part of earning their stripes as young adults. It's hard!

Even in the best circumstances, there will undoubtedly be some butting of heads over issues. Instead of going to war against our teens, we can go to war for them--against the enemy of their souls.

Praying daily for God's peace to reign in our home (despite our circumstances) is crucial during this time. The enemy wants to stir up anxiety, fear, and depression in our young adults. Many of our teens are suffering from one or all of these issues.

But we already know the ending to this story--Jesus is VICTORIOUS!

Continuously praying for our kids to have a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7) instead of a spirit of fear is standing on the word of God for your teen. We have the promise of God's peace to guard their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). And we can ask the Lord to help them take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5).

We don't fight alone!

In this season of parenting or grandparenting and praying for the teens in your life, lean on and into the Word of God. His promises were written for you and your teens for this exact moment!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we need peace in our home and hearts! Please guard our hearts with your peace, not the world's peace. We stand confidently on your Word that we don't have a spirit of fear but power, love, a sound mind, and self-discipline. Thank you for helping me and my teen to take each thought captive and make it obedient to Jesus. I love you, and I'm so grateful to be able to speak your word over my teen! In Jesus' name, amen.
