The Power of Words

DAY 4 OF 5

Words when wrongly used can mar relationships and destroy communion amongst brothers. As believers, we have a huge responsibility to speak well of fellow believers. God frowns at evil speaking. Slander is one of the most common evils amidst brothers. The enemy uses gossip and slander to separate and bring dissension to the church and to relationships (Proverbs 16:28). Anyone who goes about slandering or gossiping brings division into the assembly of the saints and such a person is doing the devil's work.

The Bible in Proverbs 26:20 shows us that when gossip and slander is allowed there would be contentions. In order to reduce contention in a place, slander must be dealt with and disallowed. Words when wrongly or unjustly spoken can breed a lot of problems. In our dealings with others we must refuse to speak evil about them to anyone; God hates it (Leviticus 19:16).

Offense and bitterness are the harbingers of gossip and slander. When offense and bitterness thrive in our hearts, we will try to find consolation in speaking evil about those we perceive to have hurt us, and that even makes us twice as wrong as those who we feel have hurt us. This is why unforgiveness is terrible. There's divine judgment on all who slander and gossip, for everyone must give account for every evil and worthless word they speak (Matthew 12:36).

ACTIONS TO TAKE
