Dwelling in His Shadow

The thoughts you dwell on create the world you dwell in. I've said this countless times because it's so fundamental to how God designed us to live. If your thoughts are constantly about business growth, making more money, or escaping that job you hate, then you'll find yourself dwelling in the land of striving.

But here's what God showed me: when you dwell in the secret place—in the shelter of the Most High—you get to rest in His shadow. That means you're creating not from your own strength but from His overshadowing presence and power.

I used to think dwelling with God meant hours on the floor in prayer. While extended prayer times are beautiful, dwelling is really about cultivating an atmosphere of communion throughout your day. It's what Paul meant by "pray without ceasing"—this continual conversation, this constant awareness of His presence as you create.

When you're resting in His shadow, you're not stressed about outcomes. You're not anxious about provision. You know that the One overshadowing you is working all things together for your good. Your art becomes an overflow of that rest, that confidence, that peace.

Creative Prayer Exercise: As you work today, practice "dwelling." Set a gentle timer for every 30 minutes. When it goes off, pause for just a moment. Take a deep breath and acknowledge His presence. Say, "Lord, I'm dwelling in You right now. Thank You for overshadowing this work." Then continue creating from that place of rest.

Prayer: Lord, teach me what it truly means to dwell in Your presence. I don't want to just visit You in the morning and then run off to create in my own strength. I want to remain under Your shadow all day long. Help me cultivate an atmosphere of continual communion with You. May every brushstroke, every word, every creative decision flow from this place of rest in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
