From Waiting to the Immediate

DAY 3 OF 5

Positioning Ourselves in the Right Place

In the story we read in John 5, the paralyzed man stayed by the pool for years. He was disabled; he needed others to help him—both to position him by the pool each day and to get him into the water at the right moment. After 38 years, he continued to position himself there, day after day, hoping he might one day be healed. He didn’t know when or how his miracle would come, but he positioned himself to receive it.

In Luke 19, we read that although Zacchaeus was a short man, when he found out Jesus would be passing by, he didn’t want to miss the chance to see Him. We can imagine Zacchaeus in the crowd, trying to see Jesus, jumping, pushing, looking for a space. But he didn’t get discouraged. He found a tree and decided to climb it. Jesus stopped, because Zacchaeus had positioned himself in the right place to be seen by the Lord. And that’s when He said, “Zacchaeus, come down; tonight I’m dining at your house.” We don’t know everything that happened during that dinner, but we do know his life was completely changed. All of that happened because he decided to be in the right place.

The place where we decide to position ourselves today will determine what we see in our life. No matter how long the wait is, we must keep positioning ourselves—because we never know when we’ll go from waiting to the immediate.

So then, where is that right place where we can position ourselves? Church is a good place. It’s the right place to position our marriage, our family, our dreams. Any space where the presence of God dwells is the right place.

What decisions are you making today to position yourself in the right place?

Prayer: Lord, help me position my life and my family in the right place. Let me not be distracted or drift away from You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

About this Plan

From Waiting to the Immediate

This devotional by Chris Mendez invites us to reflect on the process between what we are waiting for and God’s immediate action. Through New Testament stories and the teachings of Jesus, we discover principles that prepare us to live by faith, stay in the right place, go to the true source, and receive far more than we expected.
