From Waiting to the Immediate

DAY 2 OF 5

Do You Want to Be Healed?

Jesus’ question, “Do you want to be healed?” might seem out of place for someone who had been waiting so long, who had suffered so much. However, it’s an important question. Many times, we cling to our condition because our identity is wrapped up in it. In some way, we receive benefits, empathy, or compassion because of it, and it’s more comfortable to remain there. We end up becoming the protagonist of our own victim mindset. We don’t want to get up from where we are because we like the attention we get.

Looking at it from a spiritual standpoint, many don’t want to be healed of their sin because they’re comfortable and don’t want to change their lifestyle. It’s important to answer that question, because after so long in the same condition, you no longer have the condition—the condition has you.

“Get up, take your mat, and walk,” Jesus said to the sick man. And he was healed instantly. The miracle came without needing to enter the pool. What that man couldn’t accomplish in 38 years, Jesus did in a moment. And Jesus didn’t just heal his body; He restored his identity. He was no longer the man on the mat. He was free. And today, Jesus is still asking the same question: Do you want to be healed? Because being willing is the first step toward the miracle.

What attitudes or thoughts might be revealing that we’ve grown more accustomed to our condition than we realize?

Prayer: Lord, heal me in every area of my life. I no longer want to justify my condition. I want to live in freedom, walk in Your promises, and leave behind everything that holds me back. In Jesus’ name, amen.
