We Are Family

DAY 2 OF 28

Reading the Bible can feel intimidating sometimes. But one simple way of studying Scripture is called S.O.A.P. It stands for "Scripture," "Observation," "Application," and "Prayer." We'll show you how—it's easy!

S: Scripture

If you haven't already, read today's passage of Scripture. Then summarize it in your own words.

O: Observation

Read 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 again.

  • What stands out to you?
  • What does it teach us about what God's love looks like?
  • How does it tell us to treat others because of that love?

A: Application

What's one way you're struggling to show love to your family this week? It could be one specific person or everyone.

When you read the descriptions of love in this passage, which would you say comes naturally to you? Which one is most difficult?

Think about how your family would be different if everyone treated each other the way this passage says to. What's one step you can take this week to model that?

P: Prayer

Spend some time in prayer about your family. Talk to God about the good stuff you appreciate and the things that are difficult. Ask for help putting the words from today's passage into action. Choose one word that describes how you want to better model God's love to those in your family this week, and ask for help following through in doing that.

About this Plan

We Are Family

Family can be complicated. Some family memories make us laugh, and others… well, we’d rather forget. The truth is, no family is perfect, and even the Bible is full of families that fell short of the ideal—just look at Abraham’s! In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we’ll follow Abraham’s family, who had their own set of imperfections, and see how God was faithful through their best and worst moments. Along the way, we’ll discover that no matter what kind of family we have, there's always room for us in God's family.
