Conquering the Unknown: Trusting God in Life’s Uncertainties

DAY 6 OF 7

The Power of Flexibility and Adaptability

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Paul had his plans set. He was determined to preach in Asia. But the Holy Spirit had other plans, redirecting him to Macedonia. If Paul had dug in his heels, resisting the change, he would have missed the chance to bring the Gospel to an entirely new continent, Europe. His willingness to be flexible and adjust to God’s Leading aligned him with a Greater Purpose.

I understand this kind of divine redirection all too well. Moving from one country to another is never simple. Each transition comes with challenges: learning a new language, navigating unfamiliar customs, and finding a place to belong. The weight of uncertainty can be overwhelming. Yet, with each move, we learned to embrace change as an opportunity rather than a burden.

Our journey took us from India to Semarang, Indonesia, and Jakarta. From there, we moved to Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong. Each city brought challenges, new languages to learn, cultures to understand, and communities to connect with.

Whether it was Semarang's bustling streets, Jakarta's busy pace, the cultural shift in Ho Chi Minh City, or the fast-moving energy of Hong Kong, everything felt unfamiliar at first. The language barriers, the new foods, the customs - it all felt like navigating through a maze. But as we settled into each place, God began to open doors.

We met people from all walks of life, many struggling with their challenges. Our journey became a bridge, connecting us to others, sharing our experiences, and offering encouragement. What initially seemed like a series of random relocations unfolded into a carefully orchestrated path, full of Divine Appointments.

Looking back, I see how God used every move to shape us. It wasn’t just about the physical relocations but about the transformation He was bringing about in our hearts, preparing us for something more splendid, refining our faith, and expanding our understanding of His Work.

Flexibility and adaptability aren’t just about surviving change but about thriving in the unknown, trusting that God is at work, even when the path ahead is unclear. He would have missed a more incredible opportunity if Paul had resisted the Holy Spirit’s redirection. Similarly, in our journey, when we yield to God’s Leading, we align our lives with His Greater Purpose.

Pause and Ponder:

  • How do you typically respond to sudden changes?
  • What is one area where God might call you more flexible?

Prayer: God, when my plans change, help me trust that You are still in control. Open my eyes to see the new opportunities You are creating. Amen.
