Conquering the Unknown: Trusting God in Life’s UncertaintiesНамуна

Planning for the Known Unknowns
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Life is full of uncertainties. While we can’t predict everything, we can prepare for what we know may come by sharpening our skills, setting goals, and building resilience. Preparation doesn’t mean we control the outcome; we steward the opportunities God places before us well, trusting that He holds the bigger picture.
Joseph’s life was a masterclass in navigating the unexpected. He was sold into slavery by his brothers, rose to prominence in Potiphar’s house, and was thrown into prison for a crime he didn’t commit, and yet, through it all, he remained faithful. When he finally stood as Egypt’s second-in-command, he didn’t let past suffering make him complacent; he used wisdom and foresight to prepare Egypt for famine. He stored grain during the years of abundance, ensuring survival when scarcity arrived. Joseph’s story is a powerful reminder that trusting God doesn’t mean waiting passively; it means preparing while relying on His Ultimate Control.
I saw this unfold in my own life. After 15 years out of the workforce, God opened a door for me to work again. Our family moved to Hong Kong, where opportunities seemed brighter. Then COVID-19 hit. The world shut down, but against all odds, I secured a job at Hanson Robotics, working with AI and robotics and contributing to the design of Little Sophia. It felt like a dream. But then, funding dried up, and that dream seemed to collapse overnight. The doors closed, and uncertainty took its place.
For a while, it felt like a dead end. But in the waiting, God was still working. He didn’t just close doors; He stirred new dreams. He nudged me into unfamiliar, uncomfortable places, stretching beyond what I thought possible. And though I don’t yet see the whole picture, I know He is preparing something good on the other side.
Like Joseph, we won’t always understand why seasons of abundance shift into seasons of drought. But we can plan, prepare, and trust that when one chapter ends, God is already writing the next. The unknown may still be unknown to us, but never to Him.
Pause and Ponder:
- How can you prepare for potential challenges in your life?
- In what ways can you balance planning with trusting God?
Prayer: Lord, give me wisdom to prepare for the future while trusting You. Help me make plans that align with Your Purpose. Amen
