Looking Past The Outside

Lord,

Assumptions tangle me. I cling to my first impressions of people, failing to run them under love’s magnifying glass. I jump to conclusions about new neighbors, people at the command, strangers, and even my husband. My focus lands on their looks, actions, and rank, categorizing according to what I see, but I fail to inquire about Your thoughts and ways for them. Yet, You see it all. Please forgive me for this. Snap me out of this shortsighted stare.

You give true vision. You cause me to discern beyond the external to the internal. Circle my thoughts and reactions around the heart, not what I notice on the outside. You focus my vision in ways far beyond my ability. Settle within me a righteous understanding of people’s potential. Remind me of their true worth and Your glorious plans. Prod me to look deeper. To notice. And to celebrate Your praiseworthy craftmanship in them.
