Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneНамуна

Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD, till He comes and rains righteousness on you (Hosea 10:12).
Is it time for you to break up the fallow ground?
Hosea uses the setting of agriculture to instruct the nation. He calls them to repentance because of their wickedness. The prophet pens, "You have plowed wickedness; you have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, because you trusted in your own way" (Hosea 10:13). Hosea presses the Israelites to plant "righteousness" so that they could receive God's "mercy," which means His lovingkindness or loyal love. Centuries earlier Moses wrote about God's desire for His people. "Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer" (Deuteronomy 10:16). Hosea's equivalent to Moses' command is found in the expression "break up the fallow ground." Both men of God call for repentance.
Employment Point: Cultivate a heart of righteousness to harvest God's favor.
