Paul explains God’s judgment of believers in 1 Corinthians 3. He alone tests each one’s life work to determine whether a Christian will receive a reward (1 Corinthians 3:11-15). The Corinthians unfairly judge Paul; however, he isn’t concerned because Jesus will reward his faithful service. He concludes, “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God” (1 Corinthians 4:5). Paul uses the term “comes” as in “the Lord comes” in the past tense; Jesus certainly will return and reward Paul.
