Doing Right vs. Doing Evil in the Eyes of the Lord

DAY 36 OF 42

Before getting into today's reading, let's take some time to refresh our memory by watching the video above.

As the story of Kings comes to a close this week, we will read about one of the worst kings ever (Manasseh). This king's behavior gets pretty awful, yet, when all seems lost and the people of Judah seem too far gone, a young King named Josiah enters the story. Josiah discovers the Torah (first five books of the Bible). This discovery changes everything and Josiah leads the people through a time of reform and "doing what is right in the Lord's eyes." As we navigate the ups and downs of this week, let's not forget our conviction: "This is the Word of God; it is a unified story that leads us to Jesus." Let's ask ourselves each day, "How does this lead me to Jesus?" and ask the Lord to show us.

As we prepare for todays reading, let's pause for a few moments and quiet our minds. Let's try to be still and listen to the Lord. When ready, pray this prayer of illumination:

Today's prayer of illumination: Calm me now, O Lord, into a quietness that heals and listens. Help me be still. Open my wounded heart to the balm of Your Word. Speak to me in clear tones so that I might feel my spirit leap for joy and skip with hope as Your resurrection witness. Amen.

About this Plan

Doing Right vs. Doing Evil in the Eyes of the Lord

A 6 week reading plan through the books 1st and 2nd Kings. The theme for this plan is: "Doing Right vs. Doing Evil (in the eyes of the Lord)". We will explore the lives of prophets, kings and queens and how they led God's people in the eyes of the Lord. Some choose "evil" and others "to do what's right". How are you living in the eyes of the Lord?
