When God Makes Things Right: A 5-Day Devotional on Nahumనమూనా

Have you ever had something in your life crumble unexpectedly? It can be devastating when things that we put our trust in let us down. In Nahum 2, we see the people of Nineveh experiencing this, while getting a picture of God’s judgment.
Nineveh, the strong and proud city, was about to fall. Armies would march in, walls would collapse, and everything the people trusted in would fail. For Nineveh, this was terrifying. But for God’s people, it was a reminder that no city, army, or leader is stronger than God.
Sometimes we act like Nineveh, putting our confidence in things that can’t last — popularity, grades, relationships, or even friendships. It is easy to put our trust in these things, but they can’t save us. Only God can. Nahum reminds us to take God’s holiness and justice seriously and to make sure our trust is in Him, not in things that will crumble. Where do you put your trust?
Christ Connection
In Luke 13:3, we see that Jesus has called us to repentance. He has made a way for us to avoid judgment and find life. Salvation is a one-time decision to surrender to Christ, but repentance is a lifelong call to turn from our sin.
Ask
How can I respond to Jesus’ call to turn from sin?
Pray
Jesus, help me not to put my trust in things that won’t last. Forgive me for the times I’ve chased after things that can’t save me. Remind me that You are holy and powerful, and that I should take Your call to repentance seriously. Thank You for offering me life and forgiveness instead of judgment. Give me the courage to turn away from sin and follow You with my whole heart.
Try This
In the Christian life, we need other believers to encourage us, challenge us, and remind us of God’s faithfulness. If you have those people in your life, be honest about something you need to repent of with them. If you don’t have those people in your life, ask your pastor how you can get involved more in your church.
