Trading Shame and Striving for Wholeness in Christ

Live According to the Promises

Satan will seek to incapacitate you as a follower of Christ at every turn by having you believe lies about yourself rather than the truth of who Christ says you are. Even if you do not yet feel the truths you are preaching to yourself, you can move forward trusting God will be faithful to his promises.

David preached to his own soul, reminding himself to live according to the hope of God: “Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Savior and my God” (Ps. 42:5). When we fight the lies with truth, we can walk forward in assurance of faith, enduring hope, love-motivated good works, and biblical community, even when our soul doesn’t feel like it.

Fighting the lies with truth is not a one-time decision. This process takes discipline. It takes practice. It’s a daily “renewing of your mind” (Rom. 12:2)—an everyday battle to align your life with what is true. But you are not alone on this journey. With the Spirit of Christ in you and the body of Christ around you, you can trade your shame and striving for wholeness in Christ.

The empty flatteries of this world can never ward off the deceptive attacks of Satan. Instead, friend, you can rest secure in the truth that Christ has perfected you forever.
