Repentance from Pride

Pride is a sneaky sin. It doesn’t always show up in obvious ways. Sometimes, it’s just a subtle feeling of being in control - a fleeting thought of "Thank God, I’m not that person," or a bit of mocking someone else, a wee bit of an arrogant know-it-all attitude … you get my drift, right? Pride can be many things, but in whatever way it manifests in our lives, it usually makes us a little less dependent on God and more dependent on our convictions, thoughts, beliefs, and ideas.

Reading "God opposes the proud” in James chapter 4 makes me feel worried. I don’t want to be someone God actively opposes. Why be in a position where we’re against the God of the Universe? We don’t stand a chance! I’d rather be favored by Him for having a humble and contrite heart, but it isn’t something I can do in my strength.

Today, as you read this, I urge you to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas in your life where pride has subtly taken over. Let’s repent from this pride that separates us from God, blinds us to our faults, and hinders spiritual growth. As we humble ourselves, God's grace abounds. Reflect on areas of pride in your life, seeking God's forgiveness and grace to embrace humility.

Journaling Prompt:
